Timing is Everything
Hey friends!!! It’s been a while, I know. I’ve been busy pouring into myself and working on something special (make sure you read until the end 😉), but I have really missed this!
Taking the time to pour into myself has been so refreshing. Time is all we really have and since we don’t know how much of it we’re promised, we might as well try to be as happy as we can, with the amount that we do have.
When was the last time you really sat with yourself? Have you taken the time to process your feelings or are you too busy catering to everyone else’s? When was the last time you really checked in with yourself and evaluated your mental? Well that’s what I’ve been doing since I last wrote to you. I’m still in therapy (shout-out to Dr.Gray) and I’ve really been trying to pour into my own life and happiness these past few months.
Being the oldest of my siblings, I have always felt the need to help take care of everyone around me and lately I have been choosing myself. In my 34 years, this is the first time where I can say that I’m being selfish intentionally. Not only has it been an adjustment to those around me, but it’s been a huge adjustment for me as well. I’m not use to doing whatever I want without thinking about how it will affect someone else… but in the words of Cookie, “I gotta put me first Lucious!” (If you watched Empire, you get it 😊)
There is a time and a season for everything and everyone; some good, some bad. We just have to learn how to accept the one we’re in and how to maneuver to the next one. Here’s a few things I’ve realized about timing in my selfish season:
Don’t solely focus on the present— Now, I’m not saying to dismiss your current situation and be delusional about it.. but don’t let what’s happening right now deter you from making moves towards your future.
Also, don’t be so focused on the future— Don’t get so hung up on where you’re going that you forget to enjoy where you are currently. There’s always a silver lining even in the darkest cloud.
Pour into your passions— We all have gifts and they’re typically what we’re passionate about (or what we become passionate about). Tap in to your superpowers and share them with others. In turn, you will end up finding your tribe because your light will attract them.
With that being said, I know you’re curious to find out what the something special is that I mentioned earlier. Are you ready??
I WROTE MY FIRST BOOK!!!
Poetry has been an outlet and passion of mine since I was 12 years old. When I was in the 5th grade, I said I would be a famous author when I grew up. Honestly, I let my depression and anxiety get the best of me in my early adult life, making me forget about my dreams. In sitting with myself during this season, I made a promise that I was going to make it happen. I was going to pour into my writing and publish a poetry book. With the help of my accountability partners Brittany, and Dr. Gray, and my childhood bestfriend Kim, I DID IT! It isn’t the timing that I had set out for myself, but the timing is perfect nonetheless.
So make sure you’re following my Instagram @brownsugarandsazon because I’ll be dropping the title and cover art today at 12P EST.
Be your own hype woman/man and go cross some dreams off of your list if you’re able to. Remember, none of us know how much time we’re promised and the time is going to pass whether we take the step or not!
Until next time; Be YOU. Do YOU. LOVE YOU 💜
